THE SMALL BICYCLE AND THE MOST IMPORTANT CLUES: WHERE DID JA’DERRIUS MINNIEWEATHER GO BEFORE POLICE SAY HE WAS KILLED?
The smallest clue in the Ja’Derrius Minnieweather case may now be one of the most haunting.
A child’s bicycle.
For days, the family of the 15-year-old Baton Rouge boy searched with one desperate hope: that Ja’Derrius would be found alive. Volunteers walked neighborhoods. Police followed tips. His name spread across social media as the community begged for answers.
Now, Baton Rouge police say Ja’Derrius is dead.
But the search is not over.
His body has still not been found.
According to police, evidence suggests Ja’Derrius was beaten to death and that his body was disposed of after the attack. Maurice Parms, 51, has been arrested and booked on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the case.
Investigators say Ja’Derrius had gone to see a 16-year-old longtime friend before he disappeared. Detectives said that friend had been out getting food with Parms before returning to the area. A tense disagreement then reportedly happened between Ja’Derrius and Parms over the way Parms was acting toward the 16-year-old.
That confrontation may now be the turning point in the case.
According to warrant details reported by local media, witnesses described seeing a tall male beating a smaller person for several minutes. The warrant also said a softer voice was heard begging the attacker to stop and leave them alone. Large suspected bloodstains were later found in the area where the altercation allegedly happened.
Then came the bicycle.
Police said surveillance video allegedly showed a person matching Parms’ body type riding a child’s bicycle, discarding a mask, gloves, and a T-shirt, then later returning to retrieve those items. Investigators also said Parms was seen wiping areas of his truck with a rag.
That is why the small bicycle has become more than a detail.
It may help investigators reconstruct movement after the alleged attack.
Where did the person on the bicycle go?
Why was the bicycle being used?
Was it connected to Ja’Derrius’ final known route?
And did it help lead police toward the area where evidence was later recovered?
Before the murder arrest, local reports said police and search teams focused on areas around Winbourne Avenue and Conrad Drive, then moved toward the North Landfill in Zachary as the search expanded. Ja’Derrius had last been seen on June 5 around 2 a.m. in Baton Rouge, and community search teams had been trying to track every possible lead. Unfiltered with Kiran reported that officers were seen swabbing and examining areas near Winbourne Avenue and Conrad Drive before regrouping and heading to the landfill.
But police have not publicly said Ja’Derrius’ body is presumed to be in one specific location.
That distinction matters.
There are rumors online about where his remains may be.
There are posts claiming a backyard, a landfill, or other sites.
But the confirmed update is even more painful: police believe Ja’Derrius was killed, a suspect is in custody, and his family is still waiting for his body to be found.
The bicycle may tell investigators where someone went.
The bloodstains may tell them where violence happened.
The discarded clothing may tell them what someone tried to hide.
But until Ja’Derrius is recovered, the most important question remains unanswered:
Where was he taken after the attack?
And who knows the exact place where his family can finally bring him home?
