avannah Guthrie responds to ransom note and demands proof of life for missing mom in emotional video: Latest updates
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was abducted from her Arizona home, police said
Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have shared an emotional plea to their mother’s potential kidnapper, asking for proof she’s still alive.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was abducted from her Arizona home, where she was last seen Saturday night, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has said. In a video posted Wednesday evening, Savannah and her siblings — sister Annie Guthrie and brother Camron Guthrie — acknowledged “reports about a ransom letter” and said they’re “ready to talk.”
“However, we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated. We need to know, without a doubt, that she is alive and that you have her,” Savannah said in the video.
Multiple news outlets, including TMZ and KGUN 9, reported that they received ransom notes demanding millions of dollars in Bitcoin for Nancy’s return. Authorities are investigating these notes, Nanos said.
“When the note comes to us, it’s like any piece of evidence. You give it to us, you give us a lead, we’re going to look at every aspect of that lead,” Nanos told CBS News.
Investigators have yet to identify a suspect or person of interest, Nanos said Wednesday. He’s expected to hold a press conference later Thursday to provide updates on Nancy’s disappearance.
President Donald Trump also said that his administration is “deploying all resources to get [Savannah’s] mother home safely.”
