Federal and local investigators have confirmed the official cause behind last month’s UPS Airlines cargo plane crash in Kentucky, which claimed the lives of 12 crew members and ground staff — and the revelation has left the nation stunned.
According to a statement released late Tuesday by the Louisville Metro Police Department and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), forensic analysis of recovered flight components revealed evidence of a deliberately modified electrical system designed to bypass key safety protocols.
“This was not a random malfunction,” said NTSB spokesperson Diane Collins during a press briefing. “The wiring pattern found inside the control module indicates intentional interference with the aircraft’s navigation and fuel control systems.”
The breakthrough came after investigators retrieved flight data fragments from the plane’s scorched black box and a sealed container discovered beneath the cargo hold — an item not listed on the plane’s manifest.
