The mother of a Glasgow student who passed away after being wrongly told he had failed his degree has spoken out, saying her son was “failed” by the university.
According to the family, the student had received official notification that he had not met the requirements to graduate. Later, it was discovered that the result was incorrect, and he had in fact successfully completed his degree. By that time, however, the mistake had already caused serious consequences.
His mother described him as a hardworking and determined young man who had looked forward to starting his professional career after university. She expressed deep disappointment at how the error was handled, arguing that better safeguards and support systems could have prevented the tragedy.
The university has since offered condolences to the family and confirmed that an internal review is under way to understand how the error occurred. Officials have stated they are committed to learning lessons from the incident to ensure it does not happen again.
