In a stunning new turn in the disappearance of Kayla Stone, authorities have confirmed that her mother, Laura Stone, received a voicemail from her daughter just minutes before Kayla’s phone went dark.
Police say the message — timestamped 12:07 a.m. — was recovered from Laura’s phone during a forensic review. Investigators described it as “short, emotional, and hauntingly calm.”
“It was only twelve seconds long,” one detective said. “But every word mattered.”
The voicemail begins with the sound of wind and footsteps, followed by Kayla’s trembling voice:
“Mom… if something happens—just remember what I told you.”
The line abruptly cuts off.
Forensic experts are analyzing the background audio to determine where Kayla was when the message was recorded. Investigators believe the faint sound of a passing freight train may be the key to narrowing the search area.
“It’s the kind of clue that changes the direction of an investigation,” said Captain Elise Warren.
The Stone family has asked for privacy as the recording continues to circulate online, with thousands calling the message “the most chilling piece of evidence yet.”
Authorities say additional audio data and phone location logs will be released in the coming days as the case intensifies.
