In a stunning new development, detectives investigating the disappearance of Kayla Stone have confirmed that her cellphone automatically recorded a three-minute audio clip moments before her final call abruptly ended.
Forensic analysts say the file — recovered from a hidden cloud backup — could hold the key to understanding why she vanished.
“It’s the most critical piece of digital evidence we’ve recovered so far,” said lead investigator Captain Elise Warren. “You can hear the fear, the urgency, and then… something else.”
According to sources familiar with the investigation, the clip begins with Kayla speaking softly, as if trying not to be overheard. Halfway through, another voice appears — calm, composed, and unmistakably familiar.
“The tone of that second voice changes everything,” one technician said. “It sounds like someone explaining, not threatening — as if a secret was finally being confessed.”
Detectives have declined to release the full audio but confirmed that the conversation centers on a long-standing dispute and a decision Kayla made shortly before she disappeared.
The recording ends abruptly with a sound investigators are still analyzing — described only as “metallic, then silence.”
“Once the lab confirms the voice patterns, we’ll know exactly who was with her,” Warren added.
Authorities expect a formal update within days, calling the discovery “a pivotal moment” in the search for truth.
