Detectives investigating the death of boxing legend Ricky Hatton have uncovered a chilling new clue that could finally explain how an unknown figure gained access to his property on the night he died.
According to official sources, forensic teams reviewing CCTV and access data from Hatton’s Manchester home have determined that a duplicate key — not Hatton’s own — was used to unlock the back entrance of the property just minutes before the internal alarms were disabled.
“There were no signs of forced entry, no broken locks,” a police insider told The Herald. “But when we checked the key’s cut pattern, we found something we didn’t expect — it wasn’t the master copy Ricky used.”
The discovery has stunned investigators, who confirmed that no spare keys were ever reported missing by Hatton, his family, or staff. The duplicate, police say, appears to have been professionally made — suggesting that someone with authorized access or inside knowledge of the property’s security system may have commissioned it.
Forensic experts later matched the key’s serial code to a specific locksmith record from three years earlier — one that listed a completely different name than anyone officially connected to Hatton.
“The name on that order shocked us,” said one investigator familiar with the report. “It wasn’t a stranger. It was someone who had been in his home before — someone he trusted.”
Authorities have declined to release the individual’s identity but confirmed they are now treating that person as a “significant person of interest” in the case.
Family members, who have repeatedly called for a full re-examination of the boxer’s final hours, were said to be “devastated” after learning that someone may have had unrestricted access to his home.
“If this is true, it means he was never safe — not even in his own house,” one relative told reporters.
Investigators are now working to determine how the duplicate key was used, whether the individual entered the property that night alone, and what happened inside in the minutes leading up to Hatton’s fatal collapse.
The discovery adds yet another layer of complexity to a mystery that has gripped both the boxing world and the nation — and may finally point to a betrayal that began long before the night Ricky Hatton died.
