Fede Dorcaz dead: Beloved singer dies aged 29 in shooting before Strictly appearance

The Strictly show paid tribute to the beloved star as news of his death broke

Singer and former model Fede Dorcaz has died at the age of 29 in a shooting tragedy. The Argentine star was shot dead ahead of his appearance on the Mexican version of Strictly Come Dancing on Thursday night, October 9, in what locals described as an attempted robbery. The fatal incident happened in Mexico City after he left rehearsals for the show to drive home. The Mexico City Secretariat of Public Safety, said he died instantly after being shot in the neck as he tried to exit a ring road.

Police are said to be looking for four men who fled the scene on two motorbikes. CCTV camera footage from the area is being analysed in order to identify the perpetrators who were travelling on motorcycles but there have been no reports yet of any arrests. News of his death was confirmed by the social media channel ¡Siéntese Quien Pueda! who posted: “Fede left us too soon, but his talent, charisma, and passion will live on forever in our memories and music.”

Fede was scheduled to take part in the TV show Las Estrellas Bailan En Hoy, which means Stars Dance Today and is the Mexican equivalent of Strictly.

The show, which is set to return to screens next week paid touching tribute to the star on it’s official Instagram page.

“The HOY family mourns the sad passing of our friend and colleague, Fede Dorcaz. We share in the grief felt by his entire family, his parents and his girlfriend, Mariana Avila.

“Mariana and Fede were one of the couples scheduled to appear in the new season of Las Estrellas Bailan en Hoy. Fede leaves a huge void in our team. His memory and his passion will continue to inspire us forever. Rest in peace, Fede Dorcaz.”

The star’s girlfriend Venezuelan girlfriend, YouTuber Mariana Avila, also shared an emotional tribute Fede on X. “You loved Mexico with all your being, just as everyone who knew you loved you,” she wrote.

Fede was born in Mar del Plata on Argentina’s Atlantic coast had only lived in Mexico for two years. The dance reality show was set to be his first major project in the country.

He had been described by Rolling Stone as a “rising Latin star ready to redefine global Latin pop”.

His hits, including Cara Bonita, which translates as Pretty Face, were popular across Latin America and beyond.
