3The family of the retired builder and locksmith, from Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, have contacted the police, sparking a frantic search for Paul.
The missing man’s son, also called Paul, said his dad was “a healthy, happy bloke”, adding that the disappearance was “completely out-of-character and very worrying”.
Neighbours saw the pensioner leave his friend’s apartment in Spain, but when they searched the flat they found he had left behind belongings including a computer and clothes.
Son Paul begged his dad to get in touch, saying: “We’re obviously extremely worried and have already contacted police in Essex who have been in touch with Interpol.
“We just want him to get in touch with us if he sees this message.”
The 70-year-old’s phone was off on the day he went missing.
Paul said: “It’s extremely unlike Dad not to stay in touch.”
The missing Paul regularly travels to see friends and usually rings his partner several times during the long drive back – but none of his family have heard from him at all.
His son couldn’t understand the disappearance, saying: “What we can’t fathom is the fact that a neighbour saw him leaving the place where he was staying.
“But when a friend got into the apartment to check up on him he saw he’d left belongings inside including a laptop and clothes.
“He had a small bag with money and his passport on him but the stuff he’d left are not the sort of things someone wouldn’t take with them if they weren’t planning on coming back.”
Missing man Paul has a birth mark on his left temple and speaks with a London accent.
He was last seen driving silver Sprinter van with a picture of a carp on the back.
It comes after the body of a missing 79-year-old Brit was found in southern Spain a week after he went missing.
Iain Stanley disappeared from the Perla Marina Hotel in Nerja on the east end of the Costa del Sol while on holiday with his wife on February 11.
The pensioner’s body was discovered a week later after an intensive operation across the Axarquia region, local authorities confirmed.
It was found near the Ladera del Mar and Tamango Hill – an area with steep ravines.
Cops believe the 79-year-old may have become disoriented while out on a walk.
