‘Alaskan Bush People’ star Matt Brown is feared dead after witnesses reportedly saw a man floating in a Washington river before being swept away by the current. His brother Bear Brown shared an emotional TikTok video saying authorities have not recovered a body.
Concern is growing around former ‘Alaskan Bush People’ star Matt Brown after his brother Bear Brown said the family fears he may have died following a reported incident near a river in Washington state. Bear Brown shared an emotional TikTok video claiming he had been told that Matt, 42, may have taken his own life, though he stressed that he could not independently confirm the information.
“I’m being told that late last night that Matt took his own life,” Bear said in the video. “I can’t confirm that that’s true, but witnesses say that he was seen in a river, at a river or close to a river.”
According to Bear, witnesses alerted authorities after reportedly seeing Matt near the river. He added that search efforts had not located a body at the time of his recording.
“So far they haven’t been able to find any body,” Bear said. “I can’t confirm it 100 percent, but it looks like it is.”
The Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office later told TMZ that a 911 caller reported seeing a man sitting in shallow water along the Okanogan River south of Oroville, Washington. According to authorities, the caller briefly looked away before hearing a sound and seeing the man face down in the river being swept away by the current.
Police, firefighters, and EMS personnel searched the area but were unable to recover a body. Officials said search operations are expected to continue once weather conditions improve.
During his TikTok video, Bear became emotional while discussing Matt’s long struggle with addiction. He recalled a recent phone conversation after the brothers unexpectedly met at a Walmart before Bear traveled to Florida.
“He called me after that, and he said that he had fallen off the wagon,” Bear said. “I was like, ‘Well, get back on it, man. Everybody falls off.’”
Bear also rejected claims that the Brown family had abandoned Matt, saying the situation was more complicated than many people believed. He urged viewers not to target their mother, Ami Brown, with criticism.
“Please be respectful to the family, to my mom especially,” Bear said. “Mom cares very much for Matt and always has.”
The concerning reports come days after Matt posted a troubling video discussing sleeping in a cemetery because he did not feel safe elsewhere. Matt has previously spoken publicly about struggles with alcohol addiction and stepped away from “Alaskan Bush People” in 2019 to seek treatment.
