Savannah Guthrie, co-anchor of NBC’s Today show, faces extended uncertainty in the search for her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, who authorities believe was abducted from her Tucson-area home.
Recent updates from investigators indicate the case could drag on for years despite exhaustive efforts, intensifying the emotional toll on the family.
Timeline of Disappearance
Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31, 2026, around 9:30 p.m. at her residence near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue in the Catalina Foothills area north of Tucson. Family members dropped her off that evening, but she failed to appear for her routine church service viewing the next morning, prompting a welfare check.
Relatives contacted authorities around midday on February 1 after being unable to reach her, leading to a rapid escalation. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed investigators found evidence of a crime scene, including signs she did not leave voluntarily, shifting the effort from search-and-rescue to a full criminal probe.
Her pacemaker signal lost synchronization around 2 a.m. on February 1, providing a critical window for the suspected abduction. Nancy’s limited mobility—she could not walk more than 50 yards unaided—and dependence on daily medications for high blood pressure, a pacemaker, and cardiac issues heightened alarms, as missing doses could prove fatal within 24 hours.
