California girl, 19, wakes to sound of dad killing her mom and sister – and immediately has to run
Armed with a handgun, 52-year-old Hector Lionel Alfaro began his murderous attack inside the family home on the 5800 block of Loreile Avenue in Lakewood on Thursday morning.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office said Alfaro proceeded to shoot both his wife, Roxana Rodriguez, 48, and daughter, Sienna Alfaro, 17, in the upper torso.
The eldest 19-year-old daughter woke up to the onslaught, and Alfaro then fired his gun several times at her, missing her before shooting himself dead. The man was later discovered by officials suffering from a gunshot wound while his wife and youngest daughter were found deceased in separate bedrooms.
The daughter was physically unharmed but was left “emotionally distraught” by the attack.
Two firearms were discovered at the home, and deputies initially detained the daughter after reports of an assault with a deadly weapon. They transported her to the Lakewood Police station for questioning, but soon released her from custody after they realised her father was responsible for the attack.
Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Lt. Daniel Vizcarra told reporters that the young woman, who has not been identified, was “extremely distraught” when she ran out of the home after the horrific shooting.
“Luckily, she was a survivor of this tragedy. Just trying to deal with the consequences of their father’s doing. It’s hard to process. Pain. Anger. How a person is supposed to be a protector and a father to those girls would have done something so hideous,” her uncle Jorge Fuentes told NBC Los Angeles.
Fuentes, the brother of Alfaro’s murdered wife, confirmed the family was supporting each other at such a difficult time.
He said, “All the other family members that showed up were hosting us, providing their home for whatever needs we had. It’s been a lot of reaching out by friends and family to support us through this difficult time.”
Meanwhile, Capt. Dan Holguin told reporters, “Obviously, this incident is a tragedy to the City of Lakewood. Lakewood is one of the safest cities in L.A. County.”
One relative has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the family, describing “the tragic loss of a loving mother and her daughter, whose lives were taken by an act of unimaginable violence.”
“This devastating loss has left behind their surviving children, who are now facing the world without the people who meant everything to them,” the page added.
A father from California shot his wife and one of his children to death, and then went after his eldest daughter. He eventually turned the gun on himself in front of his daughter. Now, family members are speaking out about the horrendous murder-suicide that tore their family apart.
