A couple was killed in a collision with a grain truck in North Carolina last week, leaving behind two young children, authorities and loved ones say.

Harry and Whitney Spruill were killed in the crash on April 1, NBC affiliate WECT reported, citing citing North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Harry, 42, was driving at the time of the crash, which occurred on Highway 32 in Washington County, according to WECT. The vehicle is believed to have crossed the center line and collided with the empty grain truck on the roadway.

The couple is survived by their two children, a daughter who is in kindergarten and a 6-month-old baby, who was in the vehicle and survived the crash, according to WECT and a GoFundMe started by a close friend of the family.

The baby was air-lifted to the hospital following the crash, per WECT.

“Adam and his family are some of the kindest, most genuine people you could ever meet,” the GoFundMe organizer wrote. ‘They are the type of people who would drop everything to help someone in need without thinking twice.”

The organizer noted that the Spruill family is “facing an unimaginable tragedy.”

“In a single moment, this family’s entire world was turned upside down,” the organizer wrote. “No family should ever have to go through something like this, especially not two children who now have to grow up without their mom and dad.”

The funds raised by the GoFundMe will contribute to funeral expenses for both parents, medical bills for the infant and ongoing costs to care for and raise the children.

Harry is also survived by his parents, brother and two children, according to his obituary.

“Harry was known around Plymouth as a kind man who loved to thrift, antique hunt, and help people with any clean up job,” his obituary reads. “He referred to it as ‘junking for treasure.’ He assisted many families clean out old buildings and abandoned homes, move heavy objects, and he did it with a joyful heart.”

The couple previously lost a full-term baby in 2024, a year prior to the birth of their 6-month-old, according to the obituary.

“Whitney’s devotion to her family was limitless,” Whitney’s own obituary reads. “To Whitney, family came second only to Jesus.” Whitney went on to work at Holly Neck Church of Christ.
